Catherine Rathbone

Catherine Rathbone, age 85, of Candler, NC passed away on September 22, 2025 at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center in Candler, NC. Catherine was born on October 2, 1939 in Haywood County, NC to the late Raymond Hall and Emma Lou Whitted.

Catherine graduated from Bethel High School in 1957 and then went on to graduate from Asheville Beauty Academy in 1958. Throughout her life, Catherine was a hairstylist in Canton, NC. She was a fun and loving mother who lived to take care of people. She was an incredible cook that was known for many of her dishes. She and her husband loved to camp, go to the beach, go on weekend trips to lake Hartwell, UNC basketball games, and adventures with their best friends – Jan and Herman Redmon.

Catherine is preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Marvin Rathbone Sr. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Vincent Hall.

Catherine is survived by her children, Marvin A. Rathbone, Jr., of Candler, NC and Michelle R. Brooks (Adam), of Candler, NC; her siblings, Raymond J. Hall, Jr., of Candler, NC, Sue Hall Oates (Wayne), of Canton, NC, Dortha Hall Towe, of Candler, NC, and Janice Hall Boyd, of Waynesville, NC; her grandchildren, Emily Brooks and Tyler Ashby, of Candler, NC; brother-in-law, Carlton Rathbone, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the West Asheville Baptist Church, 926 Haywood Rd, Asheville, NC 28806 on Sunday, October 5 at 3:00 PM. A visitation will follow immediately after the service. Pastor Tony Hooper and Adam Brooks will officiate the service.
