Hugh Boles Obituary

Hugh Malone Boles, 88, of Weaverville, NC, went to be with the Lord, April 14, 2025. He was born on his parents' anniversary which was also Mother's Day, May 9th, 1936. He grew up in Spillcorn in Madison County, raised by his parents Oscar and Nell Boles. His lifelong friends were his sister Sophie (Eugene "Dugan"), his brothers, Oscar "Junior" (Zelma), Paul (Barbara) and Clyde (Mary) as well as an abundance of cousins and all the Cantrell boys. He met his wife June on a double date set up by his brother Paul and friend Bill. They were married in 1957. They moved to Florida then South Carolina following work. They moved back "Home" to North Carolina as soon as they could. They had three children: Sonja (John), Allen (Deena) and Susan (Jonathan). He laughingly would tell folks he couldn't get rid of us when we all moved next to him. He joyfully welcomed his grandchildren Jodi (John), Aaron, Leslie, Chase, Sydney, Sarah (Jordan), Nicole (Mitchell), and Kaitlyn (Harrison). He was especially happy to have great grandchildren, Shelby, Shayleigh, and Luke. And an abundance of grand furs. He enjoyed all his many nephews and nieces who affectionately called him Uncle Who. He worked hard all his life. He logged, farmed, worked in a bakery, and worked for the railroad. He drove for Greyhound bus lines for 11 years. He drove 18-wheeler trucks (Peterbilt's to be precise) over 40 years. He built a trucking company with his family. He also had fun. He and June had wanderlust. They loved traveling with family and friends. They traveled coast to coast and from Florida to Nova Scotia. They built a log cabin beside their best friends George and Liz Ramsey. For Hugh golf was a passion and he loved playing with his good friends Bob Bowlin (Clesta), Ted Meadows (Virginia)as well as his grandchildren. Fishing was always an adventure with Dugan be it in Canada or Spillcorn creek. He enjoyed races of all kinds but especially when his son Allen raced Big Rigs. A funeral service will be held at 1pm Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral & Cremation Service. Reverend Raymond Cantrell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Boles Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11am-1pm Saturday at the funeral home. He will be missed daily by his wife June and his family. Flowers are very welcome, as well as donations to Care Partners Hospice, 21 Belvedere Rd, Asheville, NC 28803. They took wonderful care of him for four years. The family appreciates their care and professional expertise. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.blueridgefuneralservice.org.
