Joe Servies Obituary
Joe Thomas Servies, age 85 of Wingate, passed away unexpectedly at 4:00 PM Saturday, September 20, 2025 in Franciscan Health Hospital, Lafayette. He was unable to overcome injuries he sustained a week earlier, when his car struck a tractor and mower. He was born in Crawfordsville, January 9, 1940 son of the late Darwin Thomas and Mary Margaret Grenard Servies. He was previously married to Nancy Taylor Sumner who is the mother of their Daughter Quintana.
Joe was raised in Waynetown and was proud his family owned and operated the former Grenard Funeral Home which later became the Servies Funeral Home. He was a 1958 graduate of Waynetown High School and a graduate of a Beauty Academy. He also served with the U.S. Army Reserves.
Joe worked as a hair stylist several years operating out of his home in Waynetown, and later in various salons around Indianapolis. He left Waynetown for 'greener pastures' and worked in appliance sales in Austin and Fresno, CA. Joe owned and operated a convenience store/hotel/restaurant in Fredericksburg, TX. He then moved to Rockport, TX where he owned and operated a RV and Tackle Shop. Joe was quite the salesman…it was said he could sell snow to Eskimos! He returned to Montgomery County in 2008 and was employed as a host at the Crawfordsville Holiday Inn restaurant , the north end Marathon Station and later at Bonkers Marathon on the south side of Crawfordsville. He was known as 'Ole Joe the Cashier' and was awarded the title of favorite cashier in Crawfordsville. He was active in the Crawfordsville Elks Club where he had served as Exalted Ruler.
Surviving are: his daughter Quintana Jo 'Quin' (Tom) Northcutt of Wingate. Grandchildren: Katie Jo (Steven) Neff of Hannibal, MO and Christine Graham of West Lafayette. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren and his sister Bonnie Servies of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation hours are 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, September 25, 2025 with Celebration of Life Service at 7:00 PM with Kathy Hoskins officiating at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. He will be inurned in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Montgomery County Animal Welfare League.
