Eileen Barbara Kowal (née Gubitz), Paradise Valley, Arizona. Creative and talented artist, author and poet. Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, business owner, first mate, desert lover, cat rescuer.
Enthusiastic summer camp counselor. Dedicated Girl Scout. Graduate of Brooklyn College, B.A. Elementary Education. Proud Navy wife 1954-1958. Devoted mother to 3 daughters, grandmother to 3 and great-grandmother to 2. Owned and operated two auto repair shops in Phoenix and Scottsdale with late husband, Mel Kowal. Wrote, illustrated and self-published the Sara Series, 5 original history-mystery books for young readers. Sailed the seas on the boat Mei Lee.
Daughter of George and Fay Gubitz (both deceased). Wife of Mel Kowal (1933-2019). Sister of Jay Gubitz (deceased). Mother of Jan Coleman (Steve), Shari Scott (Todd), Pami Keenan (Guy). Grandmother of Gailee Apple (Thomas), William Scott, Phoebe Coleman. Great-grandmother of Dakota Apple, Sophia Apple.
Private service at Green Acres Cemetery, Scottsdale, Arizona, on February 12, 2025.
