Atencio, Amelia R.



Amelia R. Atencio age 70, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 30, 2017, while surrounded by her loving family. She was a lifelong resident of La Jara, NM. Amelia loved to read books, crochet, and was a great cook. she enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and was a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan. She enjoyed watching old western shows and movies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Desideria Valdez; brother-in-law, Ernesto Corrales; and a niece, Marcella Corrales-Martinez.

Amelia is survived by her loving children, Diane Seabrook and husband David, Mike Atencio and wife Louise, David Atencio and Mary Casaus; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Edwina Valdez, Joe Valdez and wife Joanne, Bertha Sandoval, Mary Corrales, Yvonne Casaus, Robert Valdez and Tina Gallegos; and other numerous relatives and friends. Amelia will be greatly missed by her loving family and by those whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be Friday, April 7, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Santo Nino Church in La Jara, NM, where a Rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at the La Jara Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Leroy Salaz, Sammy Salaz, Michael Valdez, Jose Casaus, Ted Trujillo, and Phillip Baca. Hononary Bearers will be Carlos Atencio and Nicholas Atencio.
