Angie Cano Obituary

Angie Cano

1939-2023

Angie Cano, 84, of Belen, was

welcomed into

Heaven on

Monday, Oct. 16, 2023 As she left this world, she was surrounded by her loving

family.

She was born and raised in Belen by her parents, Ismael and Jennie Saavedra. She was the youngest of three children.

As a young and independent woman, Angie left New Mexico and moved to California, where she met and married the love of her life, Aveleno. After a few years, they returned to Belen, where they raised their six children.

Angie was a devoted wife and mother, who made a difference in her community. She was a Brownie leader, who took "her girls" on numerous adventures.

She retired after a 17-year career as a corrections officer from the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility in Los Lunas, where she and Aveleno formed support groups for the inmates, and where she gained numerous treasured friends.

Angie will be remembered for her wicked sense of humor, her generous nature and feisty attitude. She enjoyed life, especially when she was with her family, in her yard, at her favorite fishing spots or at the casino.

Those hundreds of people who were lucky enough to be the recipient of her handmade scarves or blankets will always cherish their gift from Angie, including the penguins at the Bugg Lights Museum.

Angie was most proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all who will miss her tremendously and are grateful to have had such a love in their lives.

She is now with God and her

devoted husband of 55 years,

Aveleno; and her parents.

She is survived by her children, Debra and Mark Yarnelle, of Albuquerque, David and Deborah Cano, of Tempe, Ariz., Daniel Cano and Amanda Rankin, of Belen, Emily Cano, of Bosque Farms, Clara and Matthew Garcia, of Belen, and Angela Cano, of Belen; grandchildren, Erin and Adam Walker, Kristen Yarnelle, Abram and Ashley Cano, Madison Cano, Caitlin Cano, and Gonzalo "Chalito" and Ismael Cano; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Brenden Walker; sister, Lucy Ataganian; brother, Manuel and Paula Saavedra; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Cano family is grateful for the loving and caring staff at GoodLife Senior Living and Memory Care in Los Lunas, and Ambercare Hospice.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023 at Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel beginning with a visitation at 10 a.m., with a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment of Angie and her beloved Aveleno will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen.
