Anna Ratliff Obituary

Anna Mae Ratliff

(1939 - 2025)

Anna Mae Ratliff, a beloved mother, grandmother, dedicated teacher, and lifelong woman of faith, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was 86.

Anna Mae spent her early years on a farm near Inola, Oklahoma and later in the city of Tulsa, where her Mennonite Brethren heritage instilled in her a deep appreciation for family, good humor, and faith. She was a bright and focused student, and excelled academically at Will Rogers High School and the University of Tulsa, where she was an active member of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.

Following graduation, Anna Mae began her teaching career on the Isleta and Laguna Pueblo Reservations in New Mexico, a profoundly meaningful experience that shaped her approach to education. She purchased a house in Albuquerque, and went on to have a long and rewarding career with Albuquerque Public Schools. Anna Mae taught generations of children to read, count, and enjoy learning at Bel-Air Elementary School. Anna Mae later earned a master's degree in education from the University of New Mexico. Yet her greatest credential was the boundless love, wit, and wisdom she brought to those who knew her.

Anna Mae had a terrific, memorable sense of humor that was quick-witted and wonderfully dry. She loved to laugh, often sharing a perfectly timed observation. This bright spirit was the hallmark of her deep and loving marriage to Edward Ratliff of 54 years, who preceded her in death in 2018. Together, they shared countless adventures and built a life defined by devotion and mutual respect.

Her faith was the true North Star of her life. Anna Mae and Edward raised their family at Central Assembly of God, and later found cherished fellowship at Harvest Albuquerque. Her commitment to God and her church friends was unwavering, providing her with strength, community, and purpose. She poured this same love and dedication into her family. She was immensely proud of her children and lit up in the presence of her grandchildren.

Anna Mae's legacy is in the love she shared, love for her family, love for her many students and friends, and love for God. She will be profoundly missed by her children, Denise (Andy) Raykovics, Stephanie (Ron) Rydeski, and Walter (Tricia) Ratliff; her seven grandchildren; and her two great-grandchildren.

A service celebrating Anna Mae's life will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, November 28, 2025, at Harvest ABQ, 5331 Montano Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM.
