Vigil, Benjamin



Benjamin (Ben) Vigil whose nickname was 'Super' in Barelas, at the age of 92, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2016 in Tomball, Texas from natural causes. Ben was born in Barelas, New Mexico on February 14 to Manuel and Ramona Vigil. Ben served in World War II as a flight officer from 1944 to 1946. After the passing of his wife he moved from Ruidoso, New Mexico to Midland, Texas and eventually settled in the Houston, Texas area.



Ben was passionate about his family and his faith. He was ordained a Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church in May of 1978 in Santa Fe, New Mexico and served the church as long as he was physically able. He was one of the first lectors and Eucharistic Minister of the Holy Eucharist right after Vatican II and a member of the Knights of Columbus for most of his adult life. In his spare time he enjoyed building models, watching classic movies, playing dominos with Mary Alice, and playing scratch off lottery tickets.



Ben was predeceased by his wife, Mary Alice Vigil; his sisters Sadie and Marie, as well as his daughter in law, Charlotte Vigil and his granddaughter Monica Vigil.



He is survived by his sons and daughters, Alfred Vigil, Jeanette Vigil Plowman, Maurice and Irene Vigil, Tomas and Ruth Vigil, Kathy and Robert Moreno and Leonard and Amanda Vigil; grandchildren: Debbie and Mike Renaud, Gerald and Christy Parrack, Ben and Claudia Vigil, Jolene and Dedrick Walker, Solomon and Deirdre Foulk, David and Cindie Vigil, Rebekah Moreno, Jared and Leilani Foulk, Felice Moreno, Demaurice Vigil, Rachel Vigil, Elisa Vigil and Devon Summer, Joshua and Alisha Vigil, Ally Vigil, Tatiana Vigil, Annelise Vigil, Joelle Vigil, Mary Alice Vigil, Remona Vigil: great grandchildren: Makayla and Phil Owen, Justin Renaud, Taylor Parrack, Cody Parrack, Caleb Walker, Hannah Walker, Olivia Walker, Isabel Vigil, Isaiah Vigil, Christina Vigil, Jaxon Foulk, Destiny Vigil, Judah Vigil, Gabriel Vigil, Levi Vigil, Michaela Moreno, Jude Foulk, Jaydon Foulk, Jaxon Brooks, Aiden Vigil, Alaina Gunnoe, Daniel Pearl and Emma Pearl.



Ben's Memorial service will be at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas, New Mexico beginning with a Visitation with the family at 8:30 AM, a Rosary at 9:00 AM and a Memorial Mass at 9:30 AM, with a reception following in the Parish Hall. His internment will take place at 2:15 PM at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons, Benjamin Vigil, Solomon Foulk, David Vigil, Jared Foulk, Joshua Vigil and great grandson Isaiah Vigil.
