Beverly Ann Lackey

Beverly Ann Lackey, 88, a longtime resident of Albuquerque passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025. Beverly's beloved husband, Bill, predeceased her.

She is survived by her children, Ann Chao and her husband Leslie, Scott Lackey, and Kay Lackey and her husband Joseph O'Neill; her grandchildren, Alex and Garrett Chao, and Joseph and Caroline O'Neill; as well as her sister, Cathie Lehman and her husband Robert from Kyle, Texas. Her half-brother and sisters, Virginia, Gerald, and Betty all predeceased her.

Beverly was born on August 15, 1937 in Seguin, Texas to Walter and Helen Burger. She graduated from high school in Seguin and attended University of North Texas. She was married to Bill Lackey on December 27, 1959. After moving to Georgia and Hawaii in connection with Bill's service in the Navy, they settled in Albuquerque. Beverly had a long career as a special education teacher at Valley High School, where she loved her students and the school.

Beverly was a faithful and devoted member of Central United Methodist Church and was a longtime member of the Partnership class. There, she met many cherished friends, with whom she enjoyed travelling and playing bridge. She was active in numerous committees at Central and served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also volunteered for various organizations including the Girl Scouts of America, Project Share, and All Faiths Receiving Home. Beverly and Bill were avid UNM Lobo basketball fans of both the men's and women's team, and were long-time season ticket holders, often travelling to the Mountain West post-season tournaments to support their Lobos. Beverly will be remembered as a kind, loving, giving, and endlessly good-natured wife, mother, sister, and friend. Beverly suffered from dementia for a number of years and despite the toll of this disease, never lost her kind and loving demeanor.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, 2:00 pm at Central United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Central United Methodist Church in Albuquerque or Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity.
