Denise Seavey Obituary

Denise Seavey

Denise Seavey passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones, on October 15, 2025. She courageously and gracefully battled cancer for nine years, always trusting in the Lord's goodness and perfect timing.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Volk, and is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, Knight Seavey; her mother, Barbara Volk; her son, Drew Seavey, and his wife, Cathy Mondloch-Seavey; her daughter, Erin Sparkman, and her husband, Adam Sparkman; three cherished grandchildren, Summer (8), Jack (6), and Lonnie (2); and her three brothers and their spouses.

Born on August 1, 1953, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Denise was the eldest of four children and the only daughter. A natural caregiver, she had a mother's heart from the very beginning. She met her husband, a Massachusetts native, while attending the University of New Mexico. After marrying, they spent time in Ohio for graduate school before returning to Albuquerque, where they began their family. Denise studied special education and found great joy in teaching children with special needs, but her greatest calling was becoming a mother.

Her life was marked by a deep and abiding love for Jesus Christ, which motivated everything she did. She sang on the praise and worship team for many years, mentored and discipled women who had recently been incarcerated, and served faithfully in children's ministry through Bible Study Fellowship. Above all, she was a devoted prayer warrior, interceding for countless friends during difficult times and faithfully lifting up her loved ones each day.

When Denise was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2016, she accepted the Lord's will and faced the hardest battle of her life without ever wavering in her faith. Until her final breath, she praised His name. Her family now treasures her journals filled with prayers and Bible study notes, a lasting testimony to her steadfast trust in God.

Today, Denise is at perfect peace and eternal rest with her heavenly Father. Though her family will forever miss her, they rejoice in the promise of seeing her again.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at First Baptist Church Santa Fe on Saturday, November 1, at 11:00 AM.

Yesterday

Denise was one of the kindest ladies that I was privileged to know. We were neighbors growing up and we went to the same high school. I will always remember her sweet smile and her twinkling eyes. I treasure the memory of praying with her at the Newman Center at UNM. I also hope to see her in eternity. "You never lose what you give to God." St. Augustine
