Dewey Bohling Obituary
Coach Dewey A. Bohling, 87, born on August 22, 1938, in Hebron, Nebraska, passed away on October 19, 2025. He resided in Albuquerque, NM with his beloved wife Sandra of 50 years.
His life exemplified his love for sports. In 1954, he contributed to Albuquerque's Highland High School's state football championship and earned the title of an "All-American" running back. On discus, in 1955, he threw the second-longest throw by a high school student at that time. At Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene, Texas, he lettered three years in football and two years in track & field, 1956-1958. Between 1960-1961, his AFL football career as a halfback led to wins with the New York Titans (now known as the New York Jets, a NFL team) and the Buffalo Bills.
In 2012, Coach Dewey was inducted in the New Mexico Track and Cross-Country Coaches Hall of Fame. In 2015, he was also inducted in Hardin-Simmons Sports Hall of Fame for Football and Men's Track & Field. His 43-year high school coaching career gave him immense joy when his student-athletes achieved their personal goals and showed their continued acts of persistence, respect, and service to others.
Coach Dewey is survived by his children: Dewey Bohling, Jr., Donally Bohling, and Dana Sleeger (Steve), 3 grandchildren and many relatives. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Darrell Pino (Anita); Tina Keeto (Marshall), Leo Pino, 8 step-grandchildren, and 5 step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepson Lester Pino, and step-grandson David Mingo.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on November 1, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Rio Vista Church, 8701 Golf Course Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114.

Sending love and deepest condolences to Sandra and all of Dewey´s family and friends. Dewey could always regal us with wild and funny stories of adventures he shared with our parents, Chet and Ella. Dewey was a beloved family friend who was family. Rest in Peace dear friend.

For the family. Uncle Dewey was married to my mom's identical twin aunt Margie. I can remember when they lived on San Pedro long ago. Uncle Dewey and pop's were buddies. Cousin Dewey was a beast. He could have been a professional also. Donally and Dana could swim like fish .part of living in California . The Valdez family was very proud of him. Thanks uncle. So many kids you helped. RIP
