E. Catalanotto Obituary

E. Virginia Catalanotto

E. Virginia Catalanotto, 86, died Thursday, July 13th, 2023, at home surrounded by her sons and daughters, after succumbing to acute congestive heart failure.

She is survived by her sons, Anthony III (Kathleen) of Taos, NM; Peter (Sarah) of Brooklyn, NY; Paul (Lima) of Jersey City, NJ; and her daughters, Louan (Daniel) of Asbury Park, NJ; and Nancy (David) of Rio Rancho, NM; and eleven grandchildren; Michelle and Mariko; Chelsea; Josh and Jessica; Nina and Jake; Angelina, Victor, David, Jr., and Michael.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Anthony (Tony) Catalanotto, Jr., in 2018.

Virginia was born March 18, 1937, in Knox County, TN, the 3rd of four children of John and Mary Louise (Bunch) Lawrence. At the age of two, her father died and her mother, with the four children, moved to New York City.

Virginia and Tony raised their five children in East Northport, NY. Upon retirement in 1994, they moved to Rio Rancho, NM. Virginia was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and engaged grandmother. In her 40's she received an associates degree in early childhood development and helped run a day care center. She learned Spanish in her late 50's and then taught it at several senior centers in Rio Rancho. She was an accomplished ice skater, a gifted seamstress (she made a wedding dress for her elder daughter), and oil painter. She loved Pavarotti and Frank Sinatra, and her celebrated dishes were fried chicken, lasagna, banana bread, meatballs, coleslaw, and deep-dish pizza. She traveled five continents and ran a quick-printing shop with her husband. Virginia remained active well into her eighties and believed one needed to "Keep moving!"

My husband and I had the pleasure of living next to your mom and dad for many years. They were wonderful neighbors, we would sit and talk over the wall when we saw each other outside. My heart breaks for you and your family, we send our deepest condolences

She was a kind, loving woman who placed her children and grandchildren above everything and made them the center of her world. My mother's constant desire to learn new things was a big influence on me becoming a pharmacist late in life. She will be missed dearly, but she will always be in our hearts and minds.

Holding you all very close in my thoughts and prayers. Your mom was an amazing, funny, kind, welcoming, and caring person. I have such fond memories of her going back to when the Catalanottos and the Webbs were neighbors on West Haven Drive . . . Neighbors who became lifelong friends and feel like family. It was so wonderful how she kept in touch with all of us over the years, and especially with my dad after my mom passed.
May she rest peacefully and may you all find comfort in your cherished memories.
Mrs. Ginnie will always be loved and will be greatly missed.
