Losack, Evelyn C.

Evelyn Beatrice Salce Curtis Losack (86) of Corrales, New Mexico left us to join her husband on January 10, 2016. Evelyn was a farmer and environmentalist in Corrales her entire life. She was married to Johnnie Losack for 54 years and was a third generation member of six generations of Corrales farmers. She obtained a Fine Arts Music Degree at UNM, was a private music teacher for 62 years and was lead organist at multiple Catholic parishes in NM and TX. She was music education supervisor for 5 elementary schools. She insured that hundreds of children attended musical events by providing tickets and encouragement. She founded, led or was a central participant in the development of many Corrales community organizations including: Cultural Arts Council, Harvest Festival, St. Nick's celebration, Farmland Preservation Committee, Growers' Market, Corrales Water Advisory Board, the Agricultural Committee of the Middle Rio Grande Valley. She was also a central participant in many music organizations: UNM Fine Arts Alumni Board, two NM music organizations and one national (SAI). There are many organizations in which she participated and gave endless amounts of time and/or farm produce for fundraising. She never missed a chance to vote and supported many local candidates. She and her husband received many community awards in both music and farming over the years.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Trafton; daughter Joneve Losack Bender and son-in-law, Gary; son Mark Losack and his wife, Veronica; son Vincent Losack; grandson Christopher Losack and wife, Michelle; granddaughter Nicole Freidt and husband, Arnell; grandson Jeffery Bender and wife, Brandi; granddaughter Carol Bender; grandsons Brandon, Garrett, and Lorin Losack; great-grandchildren Isabella and Alex Freidt, Sydney and Logan Losack, and soon to be McKayla Quinn Bender; and numerous cousins and in-laws in New Mexico and Texas.

A Rosary and viewing will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12th, 2016 at San Ysidro Church (5015 Corrales Road). The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 13th, 2016, at the same church followed by hay wagon rides to the San Ysidro Cemetery with a reception following interment at Hendren Hall (behind the church - wagon rides back).

Evelyn was a stop at the Growers Market each week for conversation that was always fun -- and at times pleasantly contentious, with smiles at the end -- and wonderful berry pies. She was a cornerstone of the Village, among the first people I knew by name when we moved here. I will miss her on Sundays during market season and smile with memories each time I drive past her property. She will indeed be remembered by many.

I sure will miss seeing Evelyn and her apples and cobbler at the Corrales Grower's Market. She always kept my son, who is a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, in prayer. I will keep her in my prayers now.

Dear Losack family,
we are saddened to learn of the loss of your beloved matriarch, Evelyn. She has put her mark on this village in so many positive ways, and her memory will be cherished forever. Thirty years ago, when we moved to Corrales, Evelyn taught our daughter Sara how to play the piano, a gift Sara enjoys immensely to this day. Evelyn's legacy will endure through the generations. Rest in peace dear lady.

Deepest sympathies to Evelyn's family; her loss is immeasurable. Evelyn Losack was a great inspiration to music students, to members of Sigma Alpha Iota, and to her community. She touched my life, and the lives of others, in countless ways and I am both proud and humbled by the devotion to music she shared with me.
