Gary Chilcoat Obituary

Gary Dean Chilcoat Devoted father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, January 11, 2022. Gary was born Nov. 23, 1946, in Sulphur, OK where he grew up before moving to Los Alamos, NM in the 6th grade. He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1965 after his family relocated his senior year. Gary attended Lubbock CC before transferring to UNM where he graduated in 1969 with a degree in Education. Gary married Pam his wife of 30 years in 1966. He briefly taught at Valley HS before relocating to Abilene, TX, while working for Montgomery Ward. His only child, Shelly was born in 1971. In 1972 Gary and family moved back to Albuquerque, NM where he began a long career in the car business at Rich Ford. Gary and Mary were married from 1998-2008 & enjoyed spending time at their second home at Superstition Mountain Golf Course in AZ. He was a member of Army National Guard and volunteered with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department Auxiliary, The Tucker Committee benefitting Camp Enchantment NM and served on the Lobo Club Board of Directors among others. Anyone who knew Gary knew he was an avid golfer and how he shared that passion with his daughter Shelly. Gary spent 50 years supporting the Ford brand at Rich Ford and Bob Turner's Ford, most recently working part time in the Rich Ford fleet department. Gary was a natural born salesman and most conversations were initiated with him asking, "what kind of car do you drive?" Gary prided himself on taking care of his family, customers, and employees and will be long remembered for the positive influences he had on so many lives. Preceded in death by his parents Jim and Cleathel Chilcoat and younger brother Kenny. He is survived by daughter Shelly Collins, son-in-law, Wil Collins, grandchildren, Austin, Hannah and Taylor Schlagel and many cousins. A memorial service will be held at Del Norte Baptist Church, 5800 Montgomery NE at 1PM on Thursday, January 20th, 2022. Following the service, a Celebration of Life will be held at 3pm at The Canyon Club, 911 Four Hills Rd SE 87123. The service will be live streamed at dnbc.org/sermons. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to CampEnchantment.org

My heart breaks for you and your family, our sincere condolences. I will always remember every time I saw him he'd imitate one of the drops from the radio where Alana said "It's a Tony Lynn Day" He will be missed.
