James Shelton Obituary

James "Jim" Edward Shelton

December 9, 1952 -

November 5, 2025

Jim Shelton of Albuquerque, NM, died November 5, 2025, at the age of 72 years. Jim was born December 9, 1952, in Tulsa, OK to Jerry Arthur Shelton and Elizabeth Ann Shelton (both deceased).

Jim was most passionate about the Grand Canyon and backpacking. He made 62 trips to the Grand Canyon which included Rim to Rim and Rim to Rim to Rim trips. He also enjoyed hiking Wheeler Peak and the foothills of Albuquerque. He also hiked the John Muir trail that led to Mount McKinley. He was an avid wood carver and enjoyed making boots for backpackers and pieces for the cross-stitching community.

Jim's love of bicycling took him to lowa to participate in the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across lowa, simply known as RAGBRAI. Jim rode over 10000 miles in his life on a bicycle. It was one of his stress relievers when he was working. Then it became recreational.

He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He treasured his family more than anything. His entire family has hiked in the Grand Canyon with him.

Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Perlinda, his brother and sister-in-law, Art and Dana Shelton, his daughter, Aubrey O'Brien (Steve), his son Jeremy Shelton (Kelly) and six loving grandchildren; Trevor O'Brien, Marcus Shelton (Diana), Cameron Shelton, Conor O'Brien, Emma O'Brien and Kaylee Shelton.

Jim and his family would like to thank Eric Laate and Eduardo Mendoza for the loving care provided. The family would also like to thank the Presbyterian Infusion staff, Dr. Kenne and Kelly Leah.

No services are planned at Jim's request.
