Janet Sacra Florence



Janet Sacra Florence passed away peacefully in the company of family on March 4, 2022 and was interred in a private ceremony.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Quentin, two sons, Chris

(Wendy) and Pat (Pattie), and granddaughters, Kennedy and Addison, as well as a brother and sister and their families. She leaves behind many others in her extended family along with numerous friends. Jan was born in Roswell, NM to T.A. and Dorothy Sacra on December 31, 1943. She attended St. Peters School in Roswell as well as

Flintridge Preparatory

School in Pasadena, CA and Colorado Women's College. She will be always remembered as a loving wife and mother, a thoughtful and cherished caregiver.

Growing up on ranches, Jan was riding a horse before she could walk and became a talented horseback rider and jumper. She was always known as the best shot in the family. After getting married, Jan helped support her family and put her husband through school by working a variety of jobs, including bank teller, secretary, and relator. Her primary occupation and recreation was art. She made beautiful jewelry and was an accomplished calligrapher, having taught classes in the subject and being an active member and president of the area calligraphers' guild. She eventually settled into self-employment as a professional

calligrapher.

In her spare time she loved to travel, especially to destinations where she could watch and learn more about birds. Jan was a respected companion on hiking, camping, and rafting trips. She was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles of all sorts. Perhaps her greatest joy was spending time in the company of family and friends, who knew her as among the kindest of people and valued her rich sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers or mementos, Jan has asked that contributions be made to a scholarship fund established in her name with Escribiente so that others can experience the joys of calligraphy (www.

escribiente.org). Her pleasant disposition, thoughtful counsel, and kind heart will be forever missed by her friends and family.
