Jim Allen Obituary

Jim Allen

To his cycling friends, Edwin James "Jim" Allen, Jr. was the "Beast on a Bike," and to his skiing companions, he was "Rocket Man." On August 13, 2024, Jim embarked on his next great adventure - one filled with fresh powder being narrated by Warren Miller and bicycle-friendly mountains echoing, "Shut up, legs!"

Jim's love for the outdoors was evident as a proud member of the legendary - and often mischievous - Sitzmarkers. Every gathering was a chance to relive decades of skiing, camping, biking, and shenanigans, laughing as if the stories were new.

Jim is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Paulette, and their only child, Jennifer. Paulette often found herself a "bike-widow" during warm months and a "ski-widow" in the winter. As a family, they embarked on memorable journeys across the U.S., with Jim at the helm of countless RVs. Summers were spent at Elephant Butte, where he captained various boats, including the "yellow barking boat." Over the years, Jim developed a love for craft beer, sharing this passion with Jennifer. Father-daughter time often meant sampling barrel-aged stouts and porters.

Jim dedicated 38 years to Crawford and Company as an insurance adjuster, proving that he worked hard just so he could play even harder on the weekends.

The Allen family invites you to honor Jim by sharing stories old and new at his Celebration of Life Picnic on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Doc Long Picnic Area, starting at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Animal Humane Society of New Mexico in Jim's name, honoring his beloved dogs - Spotzie, Daisy Duke, and Lucille Ball.

Jim was a great neighbor for many years and we knew the whole family. our condolences go out to Paulette and Jennifer. We would have loved to join you today, but Covid kept us away. We missed your family when you left. Jennifer we remember your dances and the times you invited Emily on RV trips. She enjoyed those times. Jim was so organized that once when a bike we bought from him was stolen I called to see if he still retained serial Nos. He said "I just might have that", and so he did. He saved the day because Police said in order to get it from a local pawn shop we had to have those numbers. Jim had so many bikes and seemed to love those friends. Were sorry to hear of his passing. Now he and Emily can renew acquaintances. Love and prayers to you both. Rita and Dan Coleman

When we got to the finish line on hundred mile rides Jim would be sitting on the back of his jeep, bike already on the rack with a big smile on his face. Drinking a beer of course. But not the day we did rotary clubs hundred mile ride on the base. On this day Jim stopped to change a tire for me. He stayed with me and changed a second tire. My hands were all bandaged up, so I could not change my own tire. I got to finish the ride because of Jims help. Thank you Jim for your kindness. Two beer Scott
