John Barraclough Obituary

John Edward Barraclough, Jr.

John E. Barraclough, Jr., 79, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease.

John is leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and a profound dedication to his family and clients. He was a brilliant man and these qualities guided him throughout his life, leading him to a very successful career in accounting where his team members and clients were not just his business associates but cherished members of his extended family. John had an intimidating first impression, but he had a big heart and a bigger sense of humor. His laughter was infectious, brightening the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

John was born on August 13, 1944, to John Barraclough and Ida Jadels in Venice, Florida. He graduated from Bernalillo High School and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from New Mexico State University in 1966.

John had a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He founded Barraclough & Associates P.C. in 1985 and served as Founder and Managing Principal until January 2020 when the firm merged with Carr, Riggs, & Ingram, LLC.

John was a member of the New Mexico Society of Certified Public Accountants, The National Association of Public Accountants, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was also a Fellow of the American Board of Forensic Accounting (the highest level). John spent nearly fifty years advising financial institutions, nonprofit entities, state agencies, counties, municipalities and universities

John also served as Treasurer of the Foundation for Santa Maria El Mirador, a large nonprofit organization located in Northern New Mexico. He also served on the advisory Board of Directors of Allan Houser, Inc., the family run corporation of the famous Native American artist. John's success as an accountant was shared throughout northern New Mexico. Every Nonprofit organization that was a client of Barraclough and Associates P.C received a generous donation. John encouraged all of his team members to give back to the community and participate in sponsoring various events in New Mexico such as Pancakes on the plaza with the Rotary Club of Santa Fe, Sweetheart Auction for The Cancer Foundation, and Light up a life on New Year's Eve with PMS - The Hospice Center of Santa Fe.

John married his first wife, Nancy Novelle White, on January 28, 1966. Together, they adopted five children: Joel, Johnyce, Johnyne, Johntel, and Jaimie.

John was predeceased by his daughter Johnyce, first wife Nancy and second wife Deborah. He is survived by his son Joel and wife Dawn, daughter Johnyne and husband Jesse, daughter Johntel and husband Ethan, and daughter Jaimie. His pride and joy were his grandchildren Lexi, Rose, Greyson, Anastasia, Riley and Zoey.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner NM on August 31 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Santa Maria El Mirador, an organization that John supported for many years.
