Jonathan Denslow Obituary

Jonathan Lee Denslow

In Loving Memory of Jonathan Lee Denslow

9/18/1942- 7/24/2025

Jonathan "John" Denslow lived a life of quiet strength, deep compassion, and unwavering integrity. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, pharmacist, and friend, John passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025. His legacy is one of service, humility, and dedicationvalues he carried with grace throughout his life.

Born in Denver, Colorado, John later moved with his family to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he graduated from Sandia High School in 1960. He went on to attend the University of New Mexico, earning his degree in pharmacy. During his college years, John proudly served as the first Louie the Lobo from 1960-1963, relishing his role in university outreach and athletics, a source of joy and pride throughout his life.

At the age of 21, John married the love of his life, Carlotta "Gayle" Morris. Together, they built a life rooted in love, purpose, and enduring partnership. Over more than six decades, they raised two children, Kathy and Tom, shared a deep faith, gave generously to their community, and created a lifetime of cherished memories.

John and Gayle were proud owners and operators of Denslow Pharmacy in Nob Hill, where John served as a trusted pharmacist and friendly face to generations of customers. More than just a business, the pharmacy became a cornerstone of the neighborhood, a place where people came not only for prescriptions, but also for guidance, kindness, and genuine connection.

John was deeply committed to his community and fraternal organizations. He was an active member of the Ballut Abyad Shriner since 1975, a member of the Scottish Rite for 50 years, and a proud Mason with Hiram Lodge No. 13, which he joined in 1964. His involvement in DeMolay in his earlier years also laid the foundation for a lifetime of service and fellowship.

A lifelong musician, John had a deep love for playing the trumpet and was an enthusiastic member of both the Albuquerque Concert Band and the Ballut Abyad Shrine Band.

John served his country with honor in the United States Navy, including during the Vietnam War, where he was twice awarded the Purple Heart. His military service was marked by bravery, duty, and quiet resilience.

A lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church, John's faith was a constant source of strength and purpose throughout his life. He was deeply involved in the church's television ministry for many years, finding great joy in helping broadcast services to those unable to attend in person. Serving the church in this way was a meaningful and fulfilling part of his life.

John was a devoted husband to Gayle and a loving father to Kathy and Tom. His greatest joy came from time spent with family, especially in his cherished role as "Popo" to his grandchildren: Katie, Robert, Samuel and Sarah. He was endlessly proud of each of them and never missed an opportunity to offer encouragement, share a story or simply be a steady and loving presence in their lives.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gayle Denslow; his parents, Robert and Patty Denslow; and his brother, Ronald Denslow. He is survived by his children, Kathy Gough (Steve) and Tom Denslow (Kimberly); his grandchildren, Katie Gough, Robert Gough (Raegan Shackelford), Samuel Denslow, and Sarah Denslow (Isaiah Sanchez); his sister, Judy Wika (Bruce).

John lived his life with quiet humility and clear purpose. He never sought the spotlight, but his steady acts of service and deep love for others left a lasting impact on all who knew him. His was a life well-livedand deeply loved.

A service celebrating John's life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 201 University Blvd. NE.
