Joe was one of my mentors. An old Volvo I had needed Help, and Joe diagnosed the problem then walked me through a rebuild of the engine Teaching me with great patience, (something I was told was not usual), teaching me with tricks and stories I have never forgotten. He had a kind of brusque New York banter that I enjoyed. Maredith was also very kind to me at a time that was important. they were citizens of a kind this country needs so desperately now. I suspect their children will carry on their influence. I am grateful for having had Joe in my life.
My condolences to the family.
