Margaret Maes Obituary
Margaret Maes
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margaret Maes. Mom went to be with our Lord on October 24, 2025. Margaret was the beloved matriarch of the Maes family; her greatest joy and achievement was having a large family. As a mother of six, grandmother of (23) and great-grandmother of (43) great-great-grandmother (10) Margaret was the heart of the Maes family.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Rafael Maes, 3 infant children Louella, Anthony and Lenoard.
She is survived by her children Gene Maes (Evelyn), Ruby Maes (Robert), Joann Gonzales (Andy), Loui Maes, Theresa Lopez (Leo), Brenda Maes and their growing families.
Margaret grew up with her siblings on the family farm in Rio Lucio, New Mexico. After completing their daily chores, they always looked forward to going to "the rancho" located in the beautiful mountains near the family farm to enjoy the splendor of the outdoor activities.
Her legacy began when she met the love of her life, Rafael Maes. They raised six children in Los Alamos, New Mexico. They built their home in Vadito, New Mexico, and after retirement, moved back to the home they built together. She had a strong faith in her religion and prayer, instilling these values in her family. To her family and friends, she was a pillar of strength and wisdom; they often sought her advice and were drawn to her spunky personality.
Margaret had unconditional love for her 6 children and their families, she was known to all who knew her as "Grandma Maggie". She had a close relationship with each of them and always offered open, loving hugs, often accompanied by a playful greeting. She had a fun-loving, playful attitude full of laughter, and you never knew what she was going to say next.
Margaret was an amazing cook and pastry maker. She was most at peace when caring for her garden of flowers, sitting quietly and gazing out her window, enjoying the beauty and serenity from her home in Vadito.
Mom touched so many lives with her kindness and generous heart. Margaret had a profound impact on many people, reminding us just how special she truly was. We will miss her every day, but our cherished memories we carry will always stay with us.
