Mary Jane Brown, 96, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully at her home on the west mesa on Wednesday, April 12, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Alan Brown, Sr., and her daughter, Patricia Kay Wristen of Long Beach, California.

She is survived by her son, Jack Alan Brown, Jr. and his wife Carole of Albuquerque; her daughter, Carol Lynn Patten of Arcata, California; her grandchildren Michael Brown and wife Melissa of Austin, TX, Jasen Oldfield, Johnny Oldfield and wife Natalie of Albuquerque, Jennifer Larson and husband Ted, Becky Alsup, Melanie Ward and husband Matthew of Arcata, California, Melissa Turcotte and husband David of Paramount, California, Matthew Brown and wife Amy of Cypress, California, Katie Flores of Bend, Oregon; and many loving great-grandchildren.

Mary Jane retired from her career as a seamstress with Levi Strauss in 1984 and began a new life full of adventure and creativity. With her close friend, Elenita Fry, she toured New Mexico while pursuing a passion - photography. She even learned to develop her own film in a homemade darkroom inside a bedroom closet. After the photography bug subsided, she began to pursue other interests, such as leather craft, knitting and crocheting. She even spent a few years in a line-dancing group called The Silver Foxes. Her fierce independence allowed her to remain at home, even at her advanced age. Although she had mobility problems near the end of her life, she never let it stop her from doing things she loved to do. She loved her dog, Angie, who was at her side until the end, and she enjoyed feeding birds in her yard and having an evening glass of wine.
