Patrick Shipp Obituary
1932-2015
Pat made his journey to our Lord and Savior peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on August 16, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents A. R. and Bessie Shipp of Rotan, Texas; his brother Jack and wife Joyce of Tuscaloosa, AL.
From a young age Pat had an interest in academia and sports. He was nominated to the National Honor Society throughout his high school carrier. He attended West Texas University in Canyon, Texas on a football scholarship where he earned a Bachelors of Science degree. Pat performed his graduate studies at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ where he attained an MBA and Doctoral degrees. Pat started his professional career after graduating from collage as a school teacher in Vega, Texas. He later purchased the Pepsi Distributorship in Tucumcari, New Mexico. He realized his passion was in education and began his career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1963. He worked in some of the more isolated schools on the Navajo reservation and in 1970 was appointed as the principal at the Wingate Elementary School in Fort Wingate, NM. He retired from the BIA in 1984 and in 1986 was appointed as the interim superintendent of the Choctaw Tribe in Philadelphia, MS. He had several works published and as an educator. Eventually he officially retired and enjoyed traveling the world with the love of his life. Throughout his life he believed in philanthropic work and was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Texas Blue Lodge, Elks (Lodge 461), International Lions Club, Ballut Abyad Shrine and other fraternal organizations. He loved God, his family, traveling the world, farming, fishing and chocolate.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann, daughters: Jo-Lynne Noble (Billy), Kristan Cole (Robert), Pam Sandoval (Gary), Karen Pargin, his sons: Patrick (Judy) Shipp, Dave Dabau (Carrie), and Steve White (Eileen) and 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Daniels Family Funeral Services-Wyoming Chapel, 7601 Wyoming NE. In lieu of flowers donations to Samaritans Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or the charity of choice. The family express's their deepest gratitude to Presbyterian Hospice for the outstanding and compassionate care they provided for Pat and the family.
