Richard Craner Obituary

Richard Byron Craner

Richard Bryon Craner, 92, of Lubbock, Texas - formerly of Albuquerque, New Mexico - was called home to be with our Father in Heaven on July 5, 2025.

Richard was born on October 19, 1932, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to Elsie and Donald Craner. He graduated from Bucyrus High School and went on to earn degrees from the University of Idaho and the University of California, Berkeley. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to duty and country.

After his military service and education, Richard built a distinguished career at Sandia National Laboratories, where he served from 1979 to 1996 as a Security Classification Officer, Top Secret Control Officer, and NATO Document Control Officer. He continued as a consultant for Sandia from 1996 to 2005.

Richard was a man of faith, integrity, and intellect. He loved spending time with his family, volunteering at church, and sharing his passion for history as a museum tour guide at the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Kathy; his children: Lynn Craner, Steve (Nicole) Craner, David (Donise) Craner, and Anne Marie (Chuck) Clark; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law June Craner (wife of his late brother Delbert); sisters Jody (John) Eppley and Connie (Steve) Gibb.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 11:00 am at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 7702 Indiana Ave, Lubbock, TX, 79423. Memorial contributions may be made to Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Please visit www.memorialdesigners.net for service streaming and a place to share memories of Richard with his family.

Richard's life was a blessing to all who knew him and his memory will be cherished always.

We enjoyed getting to know Dick and Kathy, during our Sunday school class at Cumberland Presbyterian. Dick was always a pleasure to be around. We miss his smile and kind heart. May God bless Kathy, and the Craner family.
