Robert Maschhoff Obituary

Robert Henry Maschhoff

Robert Henry Maschhoff entered into his eternal home on Oct. 12, 2017. Bob was born on a farm near Hoyleton, Illinois on Feb. 17, 1934 to Henry and Selma Maschhoff.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his first wife, Martha Lentz, who died in 1984 (married 1956). Bob is survived by his wife, Nancy of 29 years (married 1988); and five children, Kevin and wife Cindy, Brian and wife Linda, Kathi and husband Paul, Kari, and Kristi and husband Andy; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd and wife Lucille, Leroy and wife Debbie; one sister, Lorraine and husband Marvin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two stepchildren; seven step grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Bob was educated as an electrical engineer at Valparaiso University, and later completed graduate studies at the University of New Mexico. He enlisted in the Navy under the Critical Skills program, serving 6 months of active duty and 7 years in the Naval Reserve. He began his engineering career at Argonne National Labs near Chicago and in 1963 moved his family to New Mexico. He worked at Gulton Data Systems and successor companies in Albuquerque for the remainder of his career where he developed precision instrumentation for uses that included: measurements on the surface of the moon, observations of the earth from space (to improve our understanding of weather and climate), and precision monitoring of aerospace vehicles such the Boeing 777 during their development. He retired in 2000. Bob was a passionate gardener, woodworker, and fisherman. He shared his favorite fishing spots on many trips with family and friends. He designed, and, (with his family), built a home in the Sandia Mountains. Many beautiful pieces of furniture were crafted by Bob. Bob was a lifelong Christian. He sang in church choirs nearly his entire life. He was an active participant in congregational life at Christ Lutheran in Albuquerque, Prince of Peace Lutheran in Cedar Crest, NM, and Ascension Lutheran in Tucson, AZ, often serving in leadership or teaching roles. He was a founding member of Prince of Peace, and a passionate supporter of the Prince of Peace Lutheran School. He was also a founding member of the East Mountain Community Messiah Chorus. He dearly loved his family and he will be greatly missed.
