Roger Buelow Obituary

Roger Henry Buelow

Roger Henry Buelow passed away surrounded by family while at Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa, Arizona on September 13, 2022 following a car accident on August 25, 2022. He was 82. Roger was born to Henry Otto Buelow and Andeline Huso Buelow, in the small farming community of Drake, ND, on June 12, 1940. He had two older sisters, a younger sister and a younger brother. He attended Drake public schools and graduated from Drake High School in 1958. He attended Jamestown College and then attended the University of Utah where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1963. On September 1, 1961, he married Grace Carlson Buelow in Bismarck, ND. Together they raised a son, Hank, and a daughter, Stephanie. Both born of the heart! Roger worked several part-time jobs while receiving his education. His first full time job was as a police officer serving the Jamestown ND police department. He began his career in the insurance business with Safeco Insurance in Salt Lake City. He was transferred to New Mexico in 1969 and two years later, began working at Mountain States Mutual Casualty Company. He worked his way from a claims adjuster to the vice president of the company. He retired after 38 years. He belonged to several business organizations and was active in the Republican political arena as well as a proud member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited.

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Andeline; sisters, Elaine Hansen and Karen Buelow along with other dear family members and friends.

Roger is survived by his wife, Grace; son, Hank; daughter, Stephanie and her husband, Hap Reilly; his five beloved grandchildren, Ashley, Cameron, Kyle, Kody and Megan Reilly; along with his brother, Otto Buelow and his family; sister Beverly Mickelson and her family; and many loved nieces and nephews and their families.

To say Roger loved outdoor activities would be an understatement. He especially loved fishing for halibut and salmon in Alaska and fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. He pulled in a 160 pound Marlin (with help) off the coast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. He hunted birds in many Octobers with relatives and friends as well as countless other hunting trips. He loved hunting deer and antelope along with the elusive oryx in New Mexico. He spent many years training and field trialing black labs with friends in the Albuquerque Retriever Club. Roger's love of travel and history made him a wonderful travel companion. Roger was also a dedicated baseball fan. He spent countless hours teaching his children to play ball. He was a very proud father and grandfather, and rarely missed a school or sporting event. He could always be seen in the front row cheering them on. His love of family and friends was something to be admired.

There will be a memorial service honoring him at Christ Lutheran Church in Albuquerque at 7701 Candelaria Rd NE on October 15, 2022 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow service
