Ronald Finzel Obituary
Ronald G. Finzel, born Feb. 17, 1939 in Detroit, Mich., died in Alb. NM on Jan. 19, 2016 after failing to recover from lung cancer surgery.
He is survived by sons, Thomas Finzel of Clinton, Md., Daniel Allen Finzel, of Fort Worth TX., and Victoria of Warren, Michigan; his grandchildren, Daniel Jr., Corey, and Tyler of Fort Worth TX; Ronald's brother Roger Finzel of Alb., NM.
Ronald grew up in the sprit of James Dean, drag racing the streets of Detroit, forming a hot rod club and being 'cool'. He became a talented Escoffier trained Head Chef at several of Detroit and Lansing Michigan's finest restaurants. He instructed in Culinary Arts at Lansing Community College providing recipes still used. He received awards of merit from the American Culinary Institute for his creative culinary skills. Tiring of the competition he moved to New Mexico. The toil of long hours and heavy food trays disabled him to a quiet and simple life in rural New Mexico.
He has been cremated and rides on the well wishes of his friends into the light.

I would like to add another of my memories of my friend Ron Finzel...we were good friends in high school. Our friends were always somehow involved in and with cars. One morning I was talking to Ron and he told me how he was at Conner and Mack, driving his Dad's '57 Chevy Nomad...a beautiful car and very fast, and the transmission suffered some mysterious malfunction. This was possibly caused by some street drag racing...however he discovered that reverse gear worked, so he drove it all the way home, late at night, in reverse. Probably about 10-15 miles. Through main streets and neighborhoods. He made it home, backed it up the driveway and went to bed. We all thought he was pretty cool after he told us the story of his latest adventure.

Mr. Finzel was such a kind and wonderful man. He came to our veterinary clinic and loved his pets so much He always brought beautiful flowers from his garden when he was out doing errands. It was always a delight to see him. He is greatly missed.

I went to Denby with Ron and was a member of the Hot Rod Club. He was always a good and sincere friend. So sorry I lost track of him. He was one of the best!
