Seemingly, I'm the sole messenger. I stand by all I've written. I've planted a tree in Roanoke, Virginia in Susie's memory, a damson plum!

A special person has departed. Talented beyond belief, what couldn't she do or master? Intellectually sophisticated, we could talk philosophy and history. Caring for others, her insights into the challenges of those who surrounded her made a difference to many. Dedication to friends never faltered. We met in Las Vegas in 1958 and her parents home became a special place of gathering for students and others and her performances in musicals on campus set a standard seldom matched. Then in 1983 she and Manny came to West Virginia to join me in the war on poverty. The head of the job training program always referred to her as the "smart one." Later, we had lunch in San Francisco as she represented a major education and training corporation. Once again, she climbed to the top as the valuable representative of a major government contractor. "How can anyone be anything other than honest?" she once questioned when those around her were anything but. Susie could always be trusted.
Later on trips through New Mexico, there were excursions up Gallinas Canyon, to the top of Sandia Mountain, and dinners in special restaurants. We talked of our children and the places where life had led.
To her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends, the loss is beyond contemplation. We're all better people because she was here. Special beyond belief!
Go the well dear friend, you have a place in my heart forever.
Love,
Jerry

Special, special person, always looking out for others. We've been friends since arriving in Las Vegas in 1958. Susie & Manny showed up in West Virginia to wage the war on poverty with me and we've been in touch ever since. Talented beyond belief, there is nothing that she couldn't master. Head of the job training program in Kanawha County, West Virginia called her the "smart one." When representing a job corps camp, she came to San Francisco and we had lunch together. She had risen to the top and represented a major training corporation. I will miss the laughter, the insightful comments, and the concern for others before herself.
To her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; the loss is beyond anything that anyone could imagine. There was only one Susie and we've all been blessed to have been in her company.
Go thee well dear friend, we're all better people because you were here!
Love,
Jerry
