Final Prayers will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at 10:30 am at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for Ba Van Nguyen, 85, who passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021, at his residence in Lafayette. With regard to the most recent mandates of the current pandemic, masks are required for gatherings in the funeral home and cemetery. Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Tuesday, September 21 from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm and resumes at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 22 at 9:00 am until Final Prayers. Immediately following the Funeral Service on Wednesday morning, there will be a processional to 2920 N. University Ave. in Lafayette for Final Farewells at that location. Tinh Do Buddhist Temple of Lafayette will assist with services. Ba Van Nguyen, known as "Chanh Thong" in his faith at the temple, was born the only child of Bo Van Nguyen and Trang Thi Nguyen on May 9, 1934, in Vinh Long, Vietnam. Mr. Ba attended college and taught in the elementary school system in Vung Tau, Vietnam. He continued in his field of work and became the Director of the Elementary Education Department in Vung Tau. He met the love of his life, Boi Thi Nguyen and raised their five children in Vietnam. In May of 1993, Mr. Ba and Boi traveled to America with their daughter, Tam and son, Truong. The rest of the family was united together once they arrived in America in between the years of 2007 and 2008. Mr. Ba was a strong man of faith and was honored to go to the temple to pray. Family meant everything to him and he often helped others by unconditionally giving his time to all. Mr. Ba is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Boi Thi Nguyen, of Lafayette; two daughters, Thuy Thanh Thi Nguyen and her husband Tri and Tam Thanh Thi Nguyen, also of Lafayette; three sons, Tuyen Thanh Nguyen and his wife Huong, Tung Thanh Nguyen and his wife Ha, Truong Thanh Nguyen and his wife Loan, all of Lafayette; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and many wonderful friends he made throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of Acadian Hospice of Lafayette for the compassionate care given to Mr. Ba and his family.
