A celebration of life is planned for Blane David Faul, age 63, who passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022 at his residence in Sunset. The celebration will be held at the main Girard Park pavilion on Saturday, May 21st, from 11am until. Blane was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette and a graduate of Carencro High School. He began working as a rough-neck on an oil platform and a deckhand on a tugboat but returned to a fascination with photography that started in high school and evolved into a 35-year career as a professional photographer. He worked as a free-lance photographer throughout the 1980's, much of his work appearing in local newspapers like the Advertiser, The Times of Acadiana, and numerous brochures, magazines, and advertisements both local and statewide. In 1990, he began his own business, Blane David Faul Photography. For many years he was a regular contract photographer for UL Lafayette, photographing sporting, public relations, and alumni events of many varieties. During his career he photographed governors, senators and congressmen (both state and federal), and four ex-presidents as well as a wide variety of local politicians and Louisiana businessmen. He was the official photographer of the Washington DC Mardi Gras Ball for the Krewe of Louisiana from 2002 through 2018. Upon retiring from photography, he began working as a general handyman, a type of work that he had always enjoyed and which he found particularly satisfying. He had a lifetime love of music, wrote his own songs, played the guitar, and relished open-mike and similar events at Bisbano's and other venues. He participated in numerous archery tournaments and won trophies in both regional and state events. He made friends easily and, for him, no one was a stranger. Survivors include his mother Nellie C. Webb of Lafayette; three brothers, Brent Faul of Lafayette, Ken Faul and his wife, Cathy of Pace, FL, Ewell "E.J." Faul, Jr. of Lafayette; two sisters, Melody Thibodaux of Lafayette, Laurette Bienvenu and her husband, Kevin, of Houston, TX; and his long-time friend Diana Benning and her two sons, Jeromi and Timothy, who were the closest thing he had to kids of his own. He was preceded in death by his father, Ewell Joseph Faul, Sr., and his brother-in-law David Thibodaux. Access the online obituary at
