Charlene Poche' Obituary

Charlene Gayle Landreneau Poche' (October 26, 1936 – March 25, 2021) "No gift to your mother can equal the gift she gave to you – Life". Charlene Gayle Landreneau Poche' passed away at her home on March 25, 2021. She was born in Vidrine, Louisiana to Leroy and Lovenia Pierotti Landreneau. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard Poche', and four children, Meredith Poche' of Lafayette, Andrew (Amy) Poche' of Ville Platte, Allison Poche' of Germantown, TN, and Andrea (Scott) McKenzie of Lafayette. She had five beautiful and accomplished granddaughters, Emily Broussard of New Orleans, Lauren (Steven) Aguillard of Lafayette, Catherine Poche', Camille and Emmaclaire McKenzie, all of Lafayette. She was a proud graduate Mamou High School Class of 1955 where she lettered in basketball and volleyball. Upon moving to Lafayette, she began her career at Western Geophysical and worked for Cleco before joining the Lafayette Parish School Board. She retired from the English Department of Comeaux High School where she made lifelong friends. She was devoted to her family and took pride in the athletic and academic achievements of her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and Scrabble, and working on family genealogy. For many years since their retirements, she and Richard conducted a competitive on-going gin rummy game in which each took pride in being the first to 5,000. Memorials may be sent to the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis, 535 Alabama Avenue, Memphis, TN, 38105.

Charlene "Poche" Poche' made my first hard years, indeed all my years, as a teacher at Comeaux High not only bearable but enjoyable. As everyone in the English department there knew, she was the heart and soul of the department around whom we all revolved. She always extended herself in kindness and generosity and with great humor and provided a safe haven, an umbrella, a listening ear, and an understanding and never-ending font of sage advice. I'll never forget her generosity and her kind spirit, and her knack for the hilarious. We laughed a lot back there in her book-lined domain. I was proud to know her and call her my friend. Rest in peace, Poche.
