Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 12, 2021 at a 12:30 p.m. Liturgy of the Word in Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas for Daniel Kurt "Scooby" Thomas, age 33, who passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021 lending a helping hand to an innocent bystander. Deacon Ulysse Joubert will officiate at the services. Daniel was a native and lifelong resident of Opelousas. To describe him in few words would be nearly impossible. Daniel had an incredible personality with an infectious smile to match. Although life threw him a curveball with the loss of his brother and battling cancer, he overcame every obstacle that came his way with grace and dignity and was a proud cancer survivor. He was an amazing father to his son, Malcolm, and his family was his entire world. Daniel, better known as "Scooby", loved to help anyone in need, which is proven in his last act of kindness. He will be so terribly missed but the reunion in Heaven is so beautiful. Survivors include his mother, Valarie Chris Morvant and her husband, Steve, of Opelousas; one son, Malcolm David Thomas of Cecilia; two brothers, Steven Morvant of Lafayette and Christopher Morvant and his wife, Lisa, of Maurice; two sisters, Olivia Thomas and her wife, Heather Walsh, of Opelousas and Jennifer Morvant Stoute and her husband, Johnny, of Shreveport; his aunts and uncles, his Godmother, Kim Gautreaux and her husband, Robert, Jamie Brinkhaus and her husband, William, Penny Boehme and her husband, Don, Peter Thomas and his wife, Pam, Bruce Ramoin, Andrew Hargroder, and his Godfather, Kevin Troy Hargroder; his maternal grandmother, Barbara Hargroder; his maternal step grandmother, Freddie Gayle Montaldo; and his nieces and nephews, Kyle Scott Thomas, Dylan Malcolm Thomas, Valarie Chris Thomas, Maeli Michelle Stoute, Sage Michael Stoute, and Sy Linden Stoute. He was preceded in death by his father, David L. Thomas, Jr.; his brother, David "Scotty" Thomas; his maternal grandfather, Malcolm Hargroder; paternal grandparents, David L. Thomas, Sr. and Mary Vervale Jagneaux; maternal step grandfather, Lester Phillip Morvant; and an aunt, Kayla Ramoin. A rosary will be prayed at 12:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
