Daniel (Danny) Broussard died peacefully, March 11, 2017, sleeping in his favorite chair. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 13, 2017 at a Time Pending Word Service in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Daniel Emile Broussard, age 67, who passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at his residence in Lafayette. Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. Mr. Broussard had many ventures in his life time. He worked as a Law Enforcement Officer for the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Department. He was the youngest President of the Louisiana Juvenile Officers Association from 1973-1974. He was also awarded Outstanding Juvenile Officer 1974-75 by the Louisiana Juvenile Officers association being promoted to the rank of Captain. He started the Lafayette Parish junior Deputy program, which we see at all ULL sporting events now! His political drive was influenced by his Uncle Carlo P. Listi who was sheriff from 1969-1984 for Lafayette Parish. In 1988, Danny ran for Sheriff of Lafayette Parish. Danny had a love for life from a very young age, propelling him through the ups and downs of owning different business. His first store was the old Danny's Supperette off University right across from The Wetlands Golf Course. Broussard Construction Company, where he and his father, Daniel Joseph, helped as they worked as a team. From owning a 10-acre drill pipe storage facility, and Houston Freightways, having over 100 trucks leased to his terminal, to changing paths once again to get back to his love of building and opened up Unfinished Furniture Outlet, off Congress and St. Patrick for close to 20 years. From there he dedicated his life to become a strong influence to his son John Ray, doing all he could to help his business ventures, anyway possible, giving him loving fatherly advice along the way. Most of all the love for his wife Rowena Ann Broussard, was the biggest blessing he had on this earth. A marriage surviving sickness, losing 2 houses to fires, along with the stresses of the ups and downs of the oil and gas business, managing to survive dust off and get back on the business train, with a passion and consistency, persistency, with each new business venture he partook in. He shared a particular joy for his close friends, Mr. Lawrence Trahan, Murphy Guillory, and Leewood Credeur. As well with his 2 loving sisters Anna Merywether, and Sophie and Ray Bergeron. His survivors include his loving wife for just shy of 50 years, Rowena Ann Cormier Broussard, his son John Ray Broussard, and daughter Renee' Broussard Spath and her husband John Spath of Katy TX, his beautiful grandchildren, Savannah Tauzin, Michael Spath, Lily Ann Broussard, Jenna Spath, Mason Davis Broussard; only living aunt, Rose Listi, and many nieces, nephews and cousins he leaves behind a great legacy. He is proceeded in death by his maternal mother Rita Broussard, father Daniel Joseph Broussard, Paternal grandfather Edward Broussard, maternal grandmother Hilda Petti Jean Leblance of Rayne. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. Monday until service time on Monday.
