Donald Harper Obituary

Dr. Donald C. Harper, a respected neurologist in Lafayette, Louisiana, died peacefully in his home on January 10, 2021, leaving no surviving relatives. His wife of 50 years, Kay Moore Harper of Dallas, Texas, predeceased him earlier this year. Dr. Harper spent the last 50 years of his practice becoming a recognized National Expert by state courts in the fields of "pain and suffering, depression, and murder suicide." He was a Diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management, obtaining numerous awards. Dr. Harper's education in a wide range of disciplines is impressive if not stunning for its broad and high standing; his past letters and credentials with Academia testify: Harvard Medical School, Yale, MIT Life-Science School, National Institute of Mental Health, and Walter Reed Army Hospital. Greater still is his standing as a prolific writer of more than 25,000 illuminating prose and poetry pieces. Dr. Harper was a student and teacher of indigenous and Non-Western cultures, coming deeply to understand their religious practices and beliefs about physical pain. He chose to practice medicine to relieve human suffering which he said, "was a doctor's legal obligation to administer." On numerous occasions, he was the "go-to" doctor when others could not diagnose cause of a patient's pain. Dr. Donald C. Harper's empathy was indeed boundless. For further personal information about Dr. Harper, call his long-time friend, A. J. Stahl at 504-756-2236.

As a consultant, Dr. Harper greatly helped family doctors like me caring for patients with complex neurological disorders.

Sadly, I just found Dr. Harper's obituary. Dr Harper was my neurologist for 35 years, and in that time I feel we became good friends. I also counted Kay as friend. It saddens me deeply that such a brilliant, curious and multi-faceted person is no longer here.
