Hal Edington Obituary
Hal Edington, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, in Oakland, Tennessee, at the age of 94. Born on April 1, 1931, in Dundee, Mississippi, Tunica County. Hal lived a full and vibrant life, filled with his sons' horse shows and sports; Many coon hunts with his fellow hunters and trips with his brothers, sisters and their spouses.
Hal was a deeply religious man who held a steadfast belief in Christianity, which guided him throughout his life. He served his country honorably as a Korean War veteran, enlisting in the United States Navy on August 1, 1949. As a machinist's mate second class aboard the USS Endicott DMS 35, he demonstrated unwavering commitment and bravery until his honorable discharge on April 22, 1953.
Following his military service, Hal dedicated over three decades to the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1986. His strong work ethic and dedication to his job were admired by colleagues and friends alike.
On November 20, 1956, Hal married the love of his life, May Bess Parham. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and together they raised two sons, Steve and Barry, who carry forward their father's values and spirit. Hal was known for his love of the outdoors, particularly his passion for rabbit hunting, which he often enjoyed with his brother and best friend, Dennis Edington. These adventures were made even more special with breakfasts prepared by his favorite sister-in-law, Chris Edington, creating cherished memories that will forever be remembered.
A family man at heart, Hal was one of nine siblings and took great joy in the annual large family reunions, where he gathered with his brothers, sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews, celebrating the bonds of family that were so important to him. Hal is survived by his devoted wife, May Bess Edington, and his sons, Steve and Barry Edington, his sister, Becky Pope (Darrell) and his sister-in-law, Carol Miles. His memory will live on in their hearts and in the hearts of all who knew him. Hal was preceded in death by his parents, Marion "Buck" Edington and Hazel Lee Kilgo Edington; his brothers Charles (Mozelle), Frank (Marion), Dennis (Chris), and Bill "Boogie" Edington; and his sisters Frances (Wayne) Elliott, May Evelyn (Charley) Belenchia, and Helen (John) Pittman.
A funeral service to honor Hal's life will be held on October 25, 2025, with visitation at 10:00 am – 11:00 am and the service at 11:00 am at Memorial Funeral Home in Tunica, MS.
In this time of mourning, we remember Hal Edington not only for his achievements and contributions but for the kindness, warmth, and love he brought into the lives of those around him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
