Jerry Cox Obituary

Jerry Donald Cox, 79, a resident of Southaven, MS, passed away on October 25, 2025, with family by his side. Born on June 9, 1946, in Memphis, TN, to Mura "Odell" Cox and Ruby A. Tracey Cox. A devoted father and beloved friend whose spirit touched the lives of many. Having accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, he lived out his remaining days with faith and hope. Jerry attended school in Memphis, TN and Lorain, OH and graduated high school in Lexington, TN. He was a US Airforce Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War (1967-1968) and later retired from the TN Air National Guard, serving during the Panama Crisis (1989), in Berlin, Germany (1990) and Desert Storm (1991). His work life also included Firestone, Auto Zone, and Lowe's. Jerry is survived by his daughters, Angie Nevill (Billy) and Tracey Lausterer (Chris); four grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Odell and Ruby Cox; three brothers, Kenneth Cox, Cleveland Cox, and Lavaughn Cox, and one sister, Jean Griffin. Jerry had a passion and love for street rods and classic cars. He was a member of the Memphis Street Rods Car Club. He contributed to the DeSoto County MS Vocational Schools Automotive Class and to the students at Lexington High School. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 3PM at Hernando Funeral Home, 2285 Highway 51 S, Hernando Ms. Interment will follow at a later date in the West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery. The family asks that car enthusiasts wear their car show/car club shirts and drive their cars for a last meet/cruise off in his honor.
