Adrian Bernier Obituary

Adrian Joseph Bernier, 70, of Anchorage died Dec. 31, 2010, at his residence with his loving wife and family by his side after a valiant fight with cancer.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel, 440 E. Klatt Road.

Adrian was born May 4, 1940, in Caswell, Maine, to the late Leonard and Lucy Bernier.

He retired from State of Connecticut as a drawbridge operator in 1966 and moved to Alaska that year. He began working for Udelhoven Oilfield Systems and had been there since 1996. Adrian had great respect for the owner, Jim Udelhoven, and he made lots of friends, especially "all the girls" and, most, of all "Papa" to Rosie.

Adrian enjoyed fishing with his sons and loved to reel in the first catch of the day. His favorite pastime was cruising with his gang of friends, including brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tim and Sharon Jacques of Wasilla, Ray and Carol Belanger of Wasilla, Terry and Phyllis Michaud, Mark Michaud and Tyler Michaud, all of Bangor, Maine, and especially the newcomers, Marrette and Peter Aldo of Shelton, Conn., and Glenna and Roger Stellmach of Tolleson, Ariz.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Julie Bernier; sons, Greg and Beth Bernier of Wasilla and their children, Christina Bernier of North Birchwood, Alexis Bernier, James Bernier and Garrett Bernier, all of Wasilla; son, Jason Bernier of Milford, Conn., and his son, Logan Bernier; son, Darren and Brook Bernier and their children, Nicole Bernier and Emily Bernier of Anchorage; sisters, Terri Cote of Branford, Conn., and Joanne and Mark Upton of Shelburne Falls, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Adrian was preceded in death by his brother, Fredrick Bernier.

The family wishes to thank for their kind and generous help the Providence Hospice team, Katmai Oncology group of Dr. Webb and Beth, and also, in the Fusion Center, nurses Stephanie, Erica, Mary and Mary, and especially Susan Merrick for all the help she provided.

The family requests no flowers.

Arrangements are with Alaskan Heritage Memorial Chapel, www.akheritage.com.

Dad Bernier,

"Strong" You Were

I have known you for so many years
Through happy times, through many tears

I look up to you in so many ways
Strong you were in these difficult days

You've put in your labor all these years
Took care of your family, built the stairs

A genuine dad, a foundation to all
Love and wisdom, you will not fall

Looking back seemed so very tough
Though you handled it, it was enough

You are reaching out for some air
Hovering angels and loved ones are near

These angels will protect and care
They will be there through the doubt, the fear

You will never be left alone or put aside
This angel has you on this ride

You will not weaken but will agree
That you will promise me, you will dance with the angels and keep an eye on me

Because “Strong You Are”

Love Catherine Vancho

I never met Mr. Bernier, however, I know his son Jason who is a very talented kind man. After reading this obituary, obviously the apple does not fall far from the tree. Sorry for your loss and hope that your fond memories give you comfort.

Pops oh my pops you were an angel on earth and now in heaven as well. You will always be remembered for your kindness and compassion. You could always manage to make people smile. I hope I can be as strong as you were. I will do my best to be the man you raised me to be and to love others the way you expect from your children. I'm going to miss you for now but I know your not far away and feel you looking over my shoulder making sure I'm doing things just right. I love you forever and always.
