Allison Breiby Obituary

Allison W. Breiby, 97, died peacefully on Oct. 18, 2016, after a brief illness from complications due to heart failure. She was born on Feb. 15, 1919, in New York City to Charles and Lorna Walton. She attended Smith College from 1937 to 1941. Allison married J. Conrad Red Breiby Jr. in 1941. In 1956, her husband's architectural firm sent him and the family to work in Rome, Italy - a time she remembered fondly. In 1965, they moved to Annapolis, Md. Allison worked as an assistant editor for The Living Wilderness, the magazine of the Wilderness Society. She became passionate about environmental issues, especially those related to Alaska. During this period she also became involved with Civil Rights and Women's issues. In 2008, following her husband's death in 2004, Allison and daughter, Lorna, moved to Alaska, to Marlow Manor Assisted Living, to be closer to her son, John and his family, where she lived happily until her death. Her parents; her husband, John C. Breiby Jr.; her sister, Mary W. Perry of Tucson, Ariz., and San Antonio, Texas; and her daughter, Lorna, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Anecia Breiby of Wasilla, Alaska; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Eric and Catherine Breiby of Palmer, Alaska; a granddaughter, Teal Pratt of Warren, N.J.; a niece, Lynne Perry of San Antonio, Texas; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Marlow Manor, 2030 Muldoon Rd. in Anchorage, on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at 1:30 p.m.
