Arthur Nagozruk Obituary

Arthur Nagozruk III, 55, died Feb. 26, 2007, at Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, surrounded by family members.
A visitation will be at noon Friday at the United Methodist Church in Nome, with a service afterward at 1 p.m. The Rev. Susan Knight will officiate. Burial will be at the Nome Cemetery in the spring.
Mr. Nagozruk was born Nov. 26, 1951, in Elephant Point to Arthur Jr. and Florence Ahlalook Nagozruk. He moved in 1952 to Buckland, where his principal and schoolteacher father taught school and where the rest of his siblings were born. He lived for a year in Point Lay and at Solomon and returned to Buckland in 1956. In 1960, his family moved to Nome, where he spent the rest of his life.
Mr. Nagozruk graduated from Nome High School in 1970 and attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks for two years. He was employed at the Reindeer Plant and in various retail positions until he was disabled. Following the death of his father in 1977, he became a caregiver to his mother until his death.
He had a great love for music and taught himself how to play the guitar when he was a teenager. He sang and played guitar in various bands. He loved to fish and enjoyed cooking. He had a generous heart and a great sense of humor. His best memories included playing and boating on the Buckland River as a little boy. His greatest accomplishment in life was accepting the Lord.

Desalernos; nieces and nephews, Monique Chmiel, Sara Johnson, Josie Wilson, Elizabeth, Erin and William A. Art spent the last half of his life taking care of his mother. He was cheerful and loving. I was very impressed with him when he and his mother were at ANS and he became so knowledgable and helpful at the hospital. I think his true calling was as a doctor or health care professional. We will all miss him.

Arthur was a great uncle and I'm proud of him for taking care of my Gram as well as he did over so many years. I am happy that I could be with him in his last moments and I will see him again in heaven someday.

Art was one of the nicest people I ever met! He always had a kind word for everyone and a smile on his face. He always asked how our kids were and remembered their names. I will truly miss seeing him walk down the street wearing his trademark bandana. Art always said "God loves you"; I am picturing him now, standing with God and smiling down on all of us, reminding us of God's love.
