Brian Myers Obituary

North Pole resident Brian L. Myers, 64, died of an apparent heart attack Dec. 16, 2007, at home.
In accordance with his wishes, the family plans to hold a small memorial service in North Pole in January. Brian's ashes will be laid to rest with his wife Linda's ashes in North Pole and on Linda's family's farm in Kansas.
Brian was born Oct. 13, 1943, in Agra, Kan., to Howard and Lavella Myers. He grew up on a farm near Agra. Upon graduating from Eastern Heights High School in Agra, Brian joined the U.S. Navy.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, Brian married Linda K. Hagman on Dec. 31, 1965. He worked at the shingle plant and at the refinery in Phillipsburg, Kan. He and Linda had two daughters.
They left Phillipsburg for North Pole during the summer of 1977, when Brian joined Earth Resources Co. and helped start North Pole Refinery. He enjoyed a career in refining with Earth Resources, Mapco and Williams before retiring in 2001.
Brian enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding snowmachines and four-wheelers, watching football on Sundays with his dear friends and spending time with his children.
"In recent years, he found great joy while watching his grandchildren at play," his family wrote. They added that he was a "beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend."
He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 40 years, Linda, and brother-in-law, Carl Soncksen.
Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Roger Parr, and granddaughter, Marley of Anchorage; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Robert Foster, and grandson, Logan of Anchorage; sister, Donna May Soncksen of Arapahoe, Neb.; sister and brother-in-law, Carla and Larry Burger of Shawnee, Kan.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Melba Hagman of Kensington, Kan.; and many other relatives and friends in North Pole.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Fairbanks Cancer Treatment Center at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, 1650 Cowles St., Department 18A, Fairbanks 99701-5998, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Friends may send condolences to the family at P.O. Box 220976, Anchorage 99522.

Cindy, Julie and Families,
Our deepest and most sincere condolences. Your dad was a wonderful person. We have so many fond memories of him - especially our many fishing trips to Valdez, and hunting moose in the "swamp". Big Jim, Frank Johnson, and Brian are playing cribbage and catching up, I'm sure. Please keep in touch.
