Carol McPherson Obituary

Carol Edith McPherson, 99, died May 9, 2007 at Knik Manor in Wasilla.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Anchorage Baptist Temple, 6401 E. Northern Lights Blvd. The Rev. Jerry Prevo will officiate.
Mrs. McPherson was born Dec. 25, 1907, in Minneapolis, Minn., to William C. Greiss and Edith Norris-Greiss. In 1928, she married Walter McPherson in Chicago. She attended business college after graduating from high school.
In 1996, she moved to Alaska, living in Anchorage prior to residing in Wasilla. She was employed by a telephone company in Chicago in 1926 and she was also a dental assistant with her husband, Dr. Walter McPherson, when he first began his practice. She was then a homemaker, raising her three children. She was a member of the Valley Baptist Tabernacle as well as Anchorage Baptist Temple.
She had served as Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Some hobbies she enjoyed were painting, flying, reading her Bible, being with family, fishing, hunting and gardening.
Her family stated: "Walter and Carol moved to Roswell, N.M., where Walter became a dentist and cattle rancher. Carol ran a beautiful 16-room home. Carol lived life to the fullest. She was a pilot, fisherman and hunter. During World War II, Carol flew her Piper Cub delivering U.S. mail in New Mexico.
"Carol hunted and fished all her life. At 86 years of age, she was out moose hunting. At 96 years, she was still pulling in silver salmon down in Seward. Carol was a member of the Presbyterian church and attended the Mormon church with her daughter, Lois, until coming to Alaska. Carol attended the Anchorage Baptist Temple while living in Anchorage. Carol believed she would go to heaven to be with the Lord. Her favorite verse was in Psalm 23: 'The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.' Carol believes that Jesus died and rose for her so that one day she would be with Him in heaven.
"Carol was a very classy lady who died with dignity and grace. Her adventurous and generous spirit touched our lives and those around her in so many ways. She had a wonderful life and did everything she ever wanted to do. She was a wonderful mother and loved by everyone she met."
Mrs. McPherson is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Dr. Delbert Brock of Anchorage, and Lois and Jim Danielson of Hagerman, N.M.; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert and Janet McPherson of Las Cruces, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter D. McPherson; parents, and brother, Richard Greiss.
She will be interred in Roswell, N.M., at South Park Cemetery with her husband.
Arrangements are with Valley Funeral Home and Crematory in Wasilla.
