Dale Dailey

Wasilla resident Dale William Dailey, 62, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, from heart failure at his home.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Valley Funeral Home, 151 East Herning Ave., in Wasilla. A celebration of Dale's life will be scheduled later this month at the Elks Lodge in Wasilla. Dale will be laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

Dale was born Jan. 3, 1948, in Illinois. He entered the U.S. Air Force and served our nation during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged.

Dale moved to Alaska in 1968 and had lived in Fairbanks, Anchorage and Houston before making Wasilla his home. Most everyone would remember Dale's second-hand store. He then worked as a mail carrier, a bartender and most recently as a cab driver. Dale was a like a second dad to his niece, Christina.

Although Dale was fairly reclusive the last few years, he is remembered as an outgoing, fun-loving person with a quick wit. He enjoyed hunting and fishing until he fell in love with golf. He also enjoyed bowling and a good evening at the poker table. Dale was proud to have served his country in the Air Force.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Sybil and Karl Zehetmeyer.

He is survived by his sister, Kathy Rounds of Wasilla; nieces, Christina Lease of Wasilla and Gail Sharp of Virginia; nephew, Christopher Lease of Wasilla; daughter, Cheryle Elaine Dailey-Marley and her husband, John, of Idaho; grandson, Porter Marley of Idaho; granddaughter, Hanna Marley of Idaho; great-nieces, Taylor Green of Wasilla and Jessica Jones of North Carolina; and great-nephews, Josh Jones and David Sharp.
