Daniel Brookshire Obituary

Nikiski resident Daniel Dayton Brookshire, 48, passed away March 10, 2011, surrounded by loved ones at his sister's home in Wasilla.

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Spruce Grove Memorial Park in Kasilof. Father Charles will officiate. A celebration of Daniel's life and memorial potluck will immediately follow the services at the Decanter Inn in Kasilof. Please bring your favorite dish.

Daniel was born Jan. 14, 1963, to Bobby Wayne and Joan Katherine (Clint) Brookshire in Portland, Ore.

Daniel was a well known fabricator and welder and worked for many oil field service companies, the latest being Arctic Slope Regional Corp. He took pride in his work and passed on his skills and knowledge to many.

Daniel was a longtime Alaskan and cherished the many outdoor activities available in the state. He was an avid fly-fisherman and made many sacrifices to be on the river casting the perfect fly he had tied.

Daniel had many lifelong friends he considered brothers and sisters and he will be missed by many.

Daniel is survived by his parents, Joan Brookshire of Vancouver, Wash. and Bob Brookshire of Nikiski; sons, Daniel and Sean, whom he longed for; brothers, Ben Brookshire of Kasilof and Kevin Brookshire of Chugiak; and his beloved sister, Julia Brookshire-Ross of Wasilla, who was at his side until the end.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family, in care of Kevin Brookshire, P.O. Box 670647, Chugiak 99567.

Arrangements were by the Valley Funeral Home.

Sending my condolences to the Brookshire Family. I never got to meet Dan in person, but was looking forward to meeting him someday to go fishing. I guess the fishing will have to wait when I meet him in Heaven. I am a friend of his father and was looking forward to seeing the beautiful Alaska he always talked about and meet his wonderful family. I again send my condolences and prayers to the family.Ron & Donna (Walton ,Oregon).

We send our love and prayers to Julia and the rest of Dan's family. He was a really wonderful person, with a big heart . We only knew him for a short while and then we lost touch, but he remained in our thoughts and our hearts. Just two days ago I asked after him, wondering what became of our old friend Dan. It was sad to find out that he is gone. We will miss him very much.
