Daniel Martin Obituary

Daniel C. Martin, 33, passed peacefully into his Heavenly Father's arms on April 21, 2016, at Queen's Medical Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, with his family holding his hand. Daniel was born to George Martin and Royce Mellish on June 27, 1982, in Soldotna, Alaska, where he was raised by George and Francie Martin until he left home to protect and serve his country with the U.S. Army in 2003. Daniel is a veteran of the Global War on Terrorism and has deployed three times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He earned numerous medals and badges, including the Meritorious Service Medal, four Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals and the Combat Action Badge. SFC Martin has served his nation with distinction while stationed across the world as a Cavalry Scout, Satellite Communications Operator and Recruiter in Vilseck, Germany; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Fort Gordon, Ga.; Fort Belvoir, Va.; and Honolulu, Hawaii. Dan loves his family first and foremost. His nieces and nephews are the apple of his eye. He enjoyed camping, bonfires, skydiving, scuba diving, hiking, biking, snowboarding, exploring and traveling. His infectious smile and bear hugs reminded everyone how loved and important they are in this world. He struck up new friendships and inspired those around him everywhere he went. He is proceeded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Mary Martin of California; Frank and Priscilla Urk of Wash.; Ralph Rainwater; Virginia Nataro; and his older brother, James E. Martin. He is survived by his parents, George and Francie Martin of Soldotna, Alaska; mother, Royce Mellish of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; sisters, Renae Wall of Sterling, Alaska, Jenny Wetzel of Anchorage, Alaska, and Angela Dyer of Kasilof, Alaska; brother-in-law, Michael Dyer; sister, Andrea Boeshart; brothers, David and Adam Martin; sisters Ashley and Anna Martin, all of Soldotna, Alaska, and Amanda Linegar of Colorado. And also his many nieces and nephews: KC, Danny and Bryana Dyer, Elijah Wetzel, Alexandria and William Martin, Caitlyn, Silas and Melody Boeshart and Mariah Wall. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Soldotna Church of God at 3 p.m., followed by a full Military with Honors burial at the Kasilof Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life at Peninsula Grace Brethren in Soldotna, Alaska. Donations may be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project or the V.F.W., of which he was a lifetime member.

Thank you for all the memories and the laughter. You were the first to introduce me to the unit in Belvoir. You and Sarah trusted me to care for your home and Jude while you guys were away on missions. You showed me what it meant to be kind and trusting of other people. We were supposed to meet up today for dinner....dammit Dan. You asked me once if I was who I actually said I was. You were the only person who could see through the front. I will always miss you, brother.
