David Sever

1939 - 2016

Longtime Anchorage, Alaska, resident David Glenn Sever, 76, passed away at his home on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016. David was born on Nov. 3, 1939, in Red Oak, Iowa, eventually living in Des Moines, Iowa. After graduating Lincoln High School, he attended the University of Nebraska, graduating with a bachelors degree in Business in 1962. He served for three years in the United States Army and was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany, in the Air Defense Unit where he met his future wife, Nancy.
Upon returning to the States, David and Nancy were married on June 26, 1965, in Mountain View, Calif., and the next day drove north to Seattle , Wash.,where he began his career with the Insurance Company of North America. He was transferred to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1979, to run their office. He served as INA/CIGNA Insurance Company president from 1980 until his retirement in 1995.
David enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting and digging clams. He was a gifted woodworker who made large pieces of furniture for his family. He did the right thing by his family and set a good example for others to follow.
His wife Nancy said: "I thank the Lord that I was able to share 51 years of my life and love with this man. He was the best father and grandfather you could ask for."
David is survived by his wife, Nancy Sever; his son, Jeff and daughter-in-law Stacey; daughter, Anne and son-in-law Brad; and grandsons, Michael and Eric, all of Anchorage; and his sister, Anne Franquemont (Bill) of Scottsdale, Ariz.
