Devante Jordan Obituary

Anchorage resident Devante Lerio D'Pray Jordan, 19, died on March 24, 2011, in Anchorage.

Mr. Jordan was born March 20, 1992, in Anchorage to Lewis Jordan Jr. and Regina Bryant.

He attended Bartlett High School and the Adult Learning Center.

His family wrote: "Devante was a loving son, brother, grandson, father and nephew. You never left his presence without him giving you a hug and a kiss. He loved his family, and being the only son he was the 'apple' of his mother's eye. We will miss him deeply and know that only God can heal the pain that our family is feeling."

He is survived by his father, Lewis Jordan Jr.; mother, Regina Bryant; sisters, Shaneka and Demoya; his son, Malikye Jordan; grandparents, Milton and Theresa Sewell of Georgia; Nathan and Carolyn Coleman of Detroit, Mich.; Toni Coleman of Detroit; and Lewis Sr. and Renee Jordan of Washington; uncle and aunt, Michael and Eureka Bryant McCrae of Anchorage; uncle, 2nd Lt. Dominic Sewell, stationed in Kuwait; uncle, Nathan Coleman Jr. of Detroit; a host of great-aunts and cousins and friends.

A special "thank you" to Ms. Jewel, Betema Muldrow, Christine Patterson, Minnie Paduyous Edwards and the Lighthouse Christian Fellowship family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give any donations you would like to the Devante Jordan fund for his son, Malikye Jordan, at Credit Union 1.

Death, be not proud

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.
