Doris Proctor Obituary

Former Oklahoma resident Doris Rae Dowdy Coonce Proctor, 81, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 19, 2016, at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane, Wash. Mrs. Proctor was born on March 27, 1935, in Doughetry, Okla., to the late Oren Turner and Julia Mae Atchley Dowdy. She had an unwavering faith in God which started at a young age and stayed with her always. She moved to California as a teenager, where she met her first husband and had four children. She married Jess Robert Proctor on Dec. 12, 1964, in Reno, Nev., and moved to Alaska in 1967. There she worked for the Anchorage Borough School District and retired in 1981. She and her husband Jess returned to Washington, Okla., to be closer to her mother, Julia, and where she became a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church and a Sunday School teacher. She and her husband were both members of the McClain County Sheriff's Posse. After the death of her husband, Jess, in 2001, Mrs. Proctor moved to Spokane, Wash., to be near her children and grandchildren, and in late 2007 moved to Anchorage, Alaska, with her youngest daughter, returning in early 2010 to Spokane, where she lived until her death. Along with her husband, Jess; and parents, Oren Turner and Julia Mae; Mrs. Proctor is preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Leroy, Oren Turner Jr. and Clovis Lee Dowdy; four sisters, Elsie Cleora and Violet Mae Dowdy, Jean Alston and Martha Bratcher; sons, Jerry and Dennis Proctor; daughters, Emily and Sue Proctor; and grandson, Justin Nadreau. Survivors include sons, Mark Coonce of Anchorage and Robert Proctor of Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Glenda Coonce-Mangos and husband Andrew of Selah, Wash., Debra Coonce-Harmon of Medical Lake, Wash., and Annette Coonce-Nadreau Edwards and husband Doug of Milton, Fla.; brothers, Eugene Dowdy and wife Goldie of California, Allen Dowdy of Kansas, and Kenneth Dowdy of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sister, Ruby Alston of Brogan, Ore.; and 24 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Proctor will be returned to Oklahoma for her final resting place next to her husband, Jess Proctor. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Nov. 3, 2016, at Washington Cemetery in McClain County, Okla., under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home.

Mark, Deb, Annette and Glenda..I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Your Mom was absolutely the most amazing, genuine, loving woman that I have ever had the honour of not only meeting, but having had her as part of my world. The only person to EVER call me "Susy", and I couldn't have been more proud! Please know that all of you and your families are in my thoughts and prayers
