Douglas Foster Obituary

On Nov. 7, 2002, Douglas Jared Foster was last seen by friends and family. He was 21 years old and celebrated his birthday with friends. Douglas was reported as a missing person to the Anchorage Police Department on Nov. 9, 2002, and has been classified as a missing person ever since. Douglas was born in Bethel, Alaska, on Nov. 7, 1981. He was the second child and first son of Evelyn J. and the fourth son of David J. Foster. He grew up in Bethel, St. Mary's, Platinum, Dillingham, Kotzebue and Anchorage, Alaska. He graduated from SAVE High School in 2001. Douglas enjoyed math and science in school, and often tutored his sister, Laurel, in these subjects. Douglas prided himself in his rock band, which was formed with friends, and loved playing the bass guitar. Before his disappearance, Douglas worked at Sea Galley as its pasta sous chef. He enjoyed the work and the company of his co-workers. His co-workers often complimented him on his kind heart and quiet demeanor. Douglas was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Lois Foster; and maternal grandfather, Rex Mathlaw Sr.; uncles, Leonard and Rex Mathlaw Jr.; uncles, Francis and Henry Foster; and aunt, Shirley Foster. Douglas is survived by his parents, David and Evelyn; his sister, Tamara with niece Rebecca; sister, Marian with nephew Jayden; sister, Laurel Ann and brother-in-law, Gary with nephew Kamron and niece Isa; brother, Darren with niece Steffanie and nephew Dillon; brothers, Dennis and Danny with nieces Sidney and Lyndsey and nephew Blake; grandmother, Edna Mathlaw; and many uncles, aunts and cousins. Thank you to Officer Dan Reeder with A.P.D. who took initiative to find Douglas and provided support to the family during the first months of his disappearance, and those who have searched for Douglas. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 1:30 p.m., at the Anchorage First Covenant Church, 1145 C Street in Anchorage. Romans 5: 1-5
