E. Roberta Cook Obituary

E. Roberta "Bertie" Fillingim Cook, age 98, of Daphne, AL, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013 at her home. She was born on July 17, 1915 to her parents, Robert and Mary "Bessie" Fillingim.Bertie was the oldest of two children. She married E. C. Cook in Mobile, AL and they had three children. Bertie was a life long resident of Mobile AL and a 1932 graduate of Murphy High School. She later obtained a LPN degree from Southwest State Technical College and worked as a nurse for many years before buying and building the first Mobile IHOP resturant. Bertie was a member of Dauphin Way Baptist Church and enjoyed reading, playing cards , scrabble, crossword puzzles and watching movies. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Bessie Fillingim, her husband E. C. Cook, daughter Ardis Cook Dees and her sister Barbara Fillingim Williams. Bertie will be remembered by her loving family: two daughters, Bonnie C. Beviacqua and Colleen C. Walker; six grandchildren, Jennifer (David) McElhaney Husack, Angela (Geoff) Sutton Walker, Bonnie Sue (Jerry) Sutton Allain, Edward (Karen) Cole Sutton, Melanie Beviacqua Paulk and David (Jenny) Bryan Beviacqua; 16 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews,other relatives and friends. A special thanks to the Mercy Medical Hospice Group: Jackie, Tonya, Jennnifer, Jim and Faye for all of their loving kind support, hardwork and dedication. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation for Bertie from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm on Thursday, December 12th at Dauphin Way Baptist Church with funeral services to start at 1:30pm. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made in Bertie's honor to the Dauphin Way Baptist Church Building Fund.
