Fay Yates

1920 - 2017

Fay Yates, age 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, at home in Anchorage, Alaska. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Gilbert and Gladys Wilcox. Fay was very proud of her Bannock Indian heritage and shared many stories.
In 1943, Fay married Paul Yates; they raised three children and celebrated 50 years of marriage before his death in 1994. In 1953, the Yates family moved to Anchorage, Paul came first and Fay followed with three small children. She loved telling the story of her journey driving to Alaska. Anchorage was a new adventure for the Yates family; Paul and Fay took great pride in building their log home.
Fay enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, baking and decorating cakes, and painting. She worked for the United States Post Office, retiring in 1970. Fay was a very active person spending her later years, volunteering at the Anchorage Senior Center. She enjoyed boating, Jet Skiing and other water sports with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren well into her 90s. She also looked forward to family dinners and liked to be very independent.
Grandma Fay will be remembered for being very caring and outspoken. She loved animals, especially dogs.
Fay is survived by her daughter, Connie Rose Marie Meenach of Arizona; five grandchildren, Grant Karl Meenach of California, Gary Paul Meenach of Colorado, Debbie Marie Carlston of Arizona, and Kellie Anglebrandt and Kenneth Yates of Alaska; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; and sons, Kenneth and Larry.
A graveside service will be held at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery, 440 East Klatt Road in Anchorage, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017. The family will be greeting friends and relatives at that time.
